knitting

the awesome allyce wood (http://allyceallyce.blogspot.com/) and the awesome allyce wood's mom taught me how to knit in the spring (the sentence, "allyce, what are you teaching this poor boy?!" was used).  then it was summer and it was too hot for knitting, but after that it was fall and i finally got back to it.

the brown scarf is my first completed project which i was so excited to wear that i have yet to block it. the blue and gray is my current project. and i better get started on the green soon, as it is a gift for a birthday that was last week.  after i finish these up, i suppose it will be time to move past the comfort of the simple rectangular scarf and on to something a bit more complex.  say a hat.  maybe some socks?  more on the patterns and yarns after the jump....

oh, and, on a side note, i reinstated the "follow" tab at the bottom of the page.  if you're into that kind of thing.

the brown is cascade yarns ecological wool- it is undyed highland and some say it's scratchy but i like it.  i used size 11 needles and a cable needle.

cast on 32 sts.

k3 p6 k1 p2 k1 p6 k1 p2 k1 p6 k3
k the ks and p the ps forever.  on the third row, cable the sets of 6 sts.  from then on, cable every sixth row.  bind off 3 rows after the last cable.  mine is about 60 inches long.

the blue and gray are cascade 220.  #8 needles.  this isn't really a pattern, just a description.

cast on 34 sts of gray.

p once every 4 ks.  k the ks and p the ps for a while, maybe 4 rows, then switch to blue and step the ps in, changing the pattern to k5 p1 k2 p1 k6 p1 k2 p1 k6 p1 k2 p1 k5. then step in again to
k6 p2 k8 p2 k8 p2 k6.  then put in a gray stripe following the pattern, then switch back to blue and step back out to k4 p1.  and on and on. and on.

the green is cascade sport (i like cascade because it is comparatively inexpensive and seems to always be %100 wool- no plastic).  i'm thinking of doing something with slip stitches.
