hey, remember those buttons i was making a while back? well, i made a shirt to go with them and finally got around to taking a couple of snaps of it. details below!
it's made of a rather thick cotton shirting with an interesting textural variation when you look really close. unfortunately, it loves lint. especially green polyester lint (i wonder where that came from?). the pattern is from burda and it fits surprisingly well. i didn't have to adjust the chest or lengthen the sleeves and the smallest neck size is just right for my scrawny-ness. in the end i left off the top button and the buttons on the sleeve plackets because i knew i wouldn't use them anyway. i also left of the pocket.
of course, my execution isn't perfect- there are a couple of catches in the arm hole seams and some spots where the clipping is a little too close- but i figured out the tricky bits that gave me trouble on my first attempt (last year) and, overall, i'm very happy with it.
i was a little concerned during the first wash cycle that the buttons might crack or the tannins and whatnot might discolor the fabric, but i've washed it twice now and haven't had a problem. the woodgrain has emerged a bit with the wetting and drying- kind of like driftwood- but they still feel strong and the shirt is still white. fingers' crossed.
